6 years in UK

6 years ago, when I was 21, on this same day I travelled from Greece to the UK -alone.
I was going to start my bachelor degree in Music.
It was a tremendously hard day which will forever be imprinted on my memory.
Ever since a lot has happened in my life in London. There were a lot of bad and good times.
I made lifelong friends, I moved on from some friendships and created new ones, I made music, I partied like there was no tomorrow, I got my bachelor, I started a masters degree, I faced serious problems, I survived, and I found love.
Athens is always in my heart; my home, the city, my family, my friends...
But London has given me so much within these 6 years, and above all, the chance to start my life over.
I hear many people who have recently moved -or want to move- to a different country complaining about not having enough people there to help them.
Well, when I came to the UK I had no one. Never complained. Never expected anyone else to help me. Dealt with my shit by myself. The first few months I was crying myself to sleep almost every night. I was in deep depression. However, not even once did I expect or guilt trip people into helping me.
Because when you choose to do something, you need to be prepared to fight on your own. It's your responsibility.
Moving to London made me stronger, expanded my horizons, made me more politically aware, inspired me to create a lot more art, and above all, pushed me to be a better person.
I'm not saying that London is perfect, on the contrary. And the past couple of years it has been getting harder and harder to afford living here.
Nevertheless, as long as I can afford to, I will keep exploring what London has to offer.
So, thank you London!
